"Wenger specializes in manufacturing heavy-duty cabinets with a proven record of durability," says Dr. Peter Gries, music department chair at Central Washington University. Based on the floor plan of the new CWU music building and the number of instruments, Wenger engineers developed and fine-tuned the number and proper configuration of instrument cabinets. "They were extremely helpful throughout the process," recalls Gries. "The communication was very good."

Compared to the home-built shelving in the old CWU building, Gries says Wenger instrument storage cabinets offer excellent protection and security, while simplifying the logistics of dealing with hundreds of instruments. "We've only had the cabinets for a year, but it's obvious they are well-built and designed to last a long time without showing much wear."

ControlThe CWU music library room was designed with the Music Library System in mind. One wall has 30 units, the opposite wall has 12. Along with storing music for CWU's primary groups - orchestras, bands and choirs - they also hold music for numerous, smaller ensembles like the jazz bands and choirs and the trombone, trumpet and brass choirs. "The Music Library units work very well - they are very efficient," comments Gries, who says being able to adjust the shelves to fit different sizes of music is a real advantage. The millwork shelving in the previous CWU music building had non-adjustable compartments, which resulted in many music scores becoming bent.

Along with the main instrument storage room, CWU has uniform cabinets and open-shelved instrument cabinets in the marching band and percussion rooms; folio cabinets; and assorted cabinets located in hallways for percussion, guitars and double basses. Gries says they also plan to order almost a dozen more - cello cabinets and uniform storage.
