Owatonna, Minnesota opened its <\/span>expansive,<\/span> 317,000-square-foot <\/span>high school <\/span>to i<\/span>ts first students in September 2023, <\/span>after <\/span>a<\/span> three-year<\/span>,<\/span> $126 million<\/span> construction<\/span> project<\/span>. <\/span><\/span>Wenger Corporation joined with other Owatonna businesses and organizations in making this new school possible.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p><\/div>

Auditorium<\/span><\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p><\/div>

In the new Wenger Performing Arts Center, a Diva\u00ae Acoustical Shell<\/a> with Lieto\u2122 LED<\/a> light fixtures <\/span>illuminate <\/span>the stage<\/span>. <\/span>The Diva shell beautifully enhances sound projection to the audience while also improving acoustical responsiveness for the performers.<\/span> The<\/span> STRATA\u00ae Pit Filler<\/a> <\/span>ensures the safety of performers and equipment while <\/span>providing<\/span> flexibility for diverse productions, enabling seamless transitions between orchestra pit and s<\/span>tage conf<\/span>i<\/span>gurations. <\/span><\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>

\u00a0<\/span><\/p><\/div>

In the wings, the<\/span> J.R. Clancy rigging systems <\/span>automate the <\/span>control <\/span>of <\/span>the <\/span>Diva shell<\/span> ceilings<\/span>, <\/span>and<\/span> electrics using<\/span> PowerAssist<\/span>\u00ae and <\/span>PowerLift<\/span>\u00ae hoists <\/span>operated<\/span> by <\/span>a<\/span> programmable <\/span>Vantis<\/span>\u2122<\/span> Pendant C<\/span>ontrol<\/span>ler<\/span>. <\/span>The per<\/span>formance<\/span> space also includes a J.R. Clancy counterweight rigging system<\/span> that offers s<\/span>tudents the valuable opportunity to gain experience in both manual and automated rigging systems<\/span>. <\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p><\/div>

\u201c<\/span>The new auditorium is a thing of beauty.\u202f<\/span>We now have an <\/span>orchestra pit that will make doing musicals far easier<\/span>, <\/span>rigging <\/span>with <\/span>line sets <\/span>that <\/span>will make loading in shows much easier<\/span>,<\/span> and <\/span>easy<\/span>–<\/span>to<\/span>–<\/span><\/i>use control systems,\u201d <\/i>said Erik<\/span><\/span> Eitrheim<\/span>, Language Arts Teacher,\u202fTheater Department<\/span> Director<\/span>, and <\/span>M<\/span>anager of the Wenger Performing\u202fArts Center at <\/span>OHS<\/span>.\u202f<\/i><\/span>\u201c<\/i><\/span><\/span>T<\/span>he <\/span>students<\/span>, <\/span>local <\/span>public schools, and the community as a <\/span>whole <\/span>will <\/span>get a lot of use out of this space.<\/span>\u201d<\/span>\u202f\u202f<\/span><\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/i><\/p><\/div>

Music <\/span>Suite<\/span><\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p><\/div>

In the Harry Wenger Music Suite, <\/span>Wenger\u2019s revolutionary <\/span>Virtual <\/span>A<\/span>coustic<\/span><\/a> Environment<\/a> (<\/span>VAE<\/span><\/span>\u00d2<\/span><\/span>) technology was <\/span>installed in the choir and ensemble rooms to <\/span><\/span>improve <\/span>acoustic<\/span>al response and <\/span>accelerate learning. <\/span>These <\/span>innovative <\/span>systems use an array of microphones and speakers, along with digital signal processing technology, to mimic the acoustics of a broad range of venues and enable performers to hear what they will sound like. <\/span><\/span><\/p>

\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/p>

The choir room and the band room <\/span>are <\/span>also <\/span>outfitted with <\/span>custom <\/span>StageTek\u00ae risers<\/a> and Signature\u00ae <\/a><\/span>choral <\/span>risers<\/span><\/a>. <\/span>Each <\/span>rehearsal <\/span>room is equipped with Wenger<\/span> Nota\u00ae <\/a><\/span>posture <\/a><\/span>chairs<\/a>, <\/span>Bravo\u2122 <\/span>music <\/span><\/a>stands<\/a>, and <\/span>Mobile Folio Cabinets<\/a><\/span>. In the Band and Orchestra rooms<\/span> UltraStor<\/span>\u00ae <\/span><\/a>Cabinets<\/a> and Music <\/span>Librar<\/span>y Systems<\/span> can be found for instrument and sheet music organization<\/span>. <\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p><\/div>

Lining the hallways in the music <\/span>suite are <\/span>UltraStor<\/span> Instrument <\/span>Cabinets, Folio Cabinets <\/span>for music storage <\/span>and <\/span>SoundLok<\/span>\u00ae Sound-Isolation<\/span><\/a> Practice Rooms<\/a> <\/span>with VAE Technology<\/span>.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p><\/div>

\u201cFrom the beautiful cherry floor<\/span>s to the chairs, stands<\/span>,<\/span> risers and <\/span><\/em>\u00a0the<\/em> storage lockers that keep the clutter of cases out of the rehearsal rooms, to the natural light and high ceilings in our teaching spaces, these are all things that <\/i><\/span>create <\/span>a vibrant<\/span> and<\/span> positive environment for music making, which is why we’re her<\/span>e,<\/span>\u201d<\/span><\/i> said Pete Guenther, <\/span>OHS <\/span>Band Director.<\/span><\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p><\/div>

\u201c<\/span>In the first week of the music suite being \u2018live<\/span>\u2019,<\/span> we had multiple students come to our area to use the practice r<\/span>ooms and ensemble rooms. <\/span><\/i>Students are accessing the practice rooms when they have completed their work, have study hall, or if their ensemble has shared time,\u201d<\/i> stated Sandra Justice, OHS Orchestra Director. \u201c<\/i><\/span>My heart is full seeing kids using the space as it is intended<\/span>.<\/span>\u201d <\/span><\/i><\/span>\u00a0<\/i><\/span><\/p><\/div>
